    …My mother spent her childhood playing on the fells near the village where she was born. She had to trek across the fells to get to school and then back again. Many a time her mother would keep her off school to help with the chores. Her father would sometimes take her on to the fells when he went to catch rabbits to supplement their food. My mother didn’t care for any of that and would play and pick flowers. It was still a dangerous place at the time, crisscrossed with mine workings and air shafts…Prints available
